MARGAO: Capuchin Brothers, Canacona registered a fluent 3-0 win over SFC Alien, Davorlim 3-0 to emerge champions in the first all-Goa open football tournament, organised by Holy Cross Boys of Davorlim, at panchayat ground, Davorlim, Sunday.
Capuchin Brothers led 1-0 at the break.
Capuchin Brothers dominated the match and put their opponents on the mat and broke the deadlock in the very first minute when Sclachi Cardozo punished the rival goalkeeper with clinical finish.
Stung by that setback, SFC Alien tried their best and fired couple of sorties but the rival defenders were stubborn and thwarted the rival attacks with neat tackles.
Capuchin Brothers continued to enjoy the lion’s share of exchanges and trouble the rival defence with sporadic raids. They increased their tally when Caetano Fernandes punted the ball to the far corner of the net. Sclachi drove the last nail into rival coffin late in the second half.
Capuchin Brothers goalkeeper Devsur Razak was adjudged the best goalkeeper while Sclachi Cardozo bagged the best player of the tournament award.
Capuchin Brothers were richer by Rs 20,000 and a trophy while SFC Alien had to be content with Rs 15,000 and a trophy. The losing semi-finalists, Young Strikers of Curtorim and Bad Boys of Curtorim were awarded cash prize of Rs 3,000 each.
Minister for RDA, Fisheries and Labour Avertano Furtado was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of Herculano Niasso, sarpanch of Village Panchayat Davorlim and other members.
