PANJIM: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) that has campaigned in all the 11 municipal councils for Sunday’s elections said they will not seek the support of candidates from other panels to take control of the municipal councils.
Addressing a press conference atBharatiya Janata Party headquarters in Panjim, Goa unit President Vinay Tendulkar said, “We won’t take support to form the panel but if anybody supports from outside then we will accept but not to form the panel.”
The statement came after Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in Goa had openly challenged BJP to form the councils without the support of candidates from panels other than their own.
Tendulkar said Bharatiya Janata Party will win in all 11 municipalities and will form councils in all.
“We entered into the election campaign with our three-and-a-half years performance and people have faith in our government. Congress party and others have left the ground even before the elections,” Tendulkar said.
But BJP won’t have it easy. In Canacona there is a tussle between Bharatiya Janata Party leaders, MLA Ramesh Tawadkar who is minister and former MLA Vijay Pai Khot. Both have floated their panels.
Tendulkar, however, said that Khot is not a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Tendulkar also mentioned that the central leadership campaigning in the Goa civic polls was not planned.
“They have not addressed public meetings, they just met party workers on the invitation of the workers,” Tendulkar said.
