Briefing the media persons at Betalbatim, Cuncolim Municipal Council Chairperson Laximan Naik along with other councillors stated that the council will stand with the people.

“The local MLA is on record that he was aware of the matter in March and had a meeting with the concerned party. We fail to understand how the same continued with the blessings of the TCP Department”, he stated.

Chairperson said that the ruling group of councillors at Cuncolim Municipal Council are with the people of Cuncolim and that they value the sentiments of the general public and demand immediate revocation of a licence issued by Town and Country Planning and also the Provisional NOC issued by the officers of CMC so as to save the hillock at Cancanamoddi, Panzorconi and put an end to the issue.

He claimed that the technical clearance order from TCP Department was obtained by the developers on April, 5.

“New Council took the first meeting on April 6 but the technical clearance file was not referred to the elected council by Chief Officer nor by the engineers, citing it a technical administration matter and not requires elected councils nod”, chairperson stated.

He further informed that on July 26, the complainant and respondents were summoned for hearing in the matter and the way the hearing was preceding it was generating an impression like the plot developers were almost dictating the Chief Officer and insisting on the withdrawal of stop-work notice citing commercial losses.

“Upon observing all the points mentioned above, complaints from local villagers and going through the noting of the file, there is consensus amongst the ruling council members and  have decided to request Vigilance Department for evaluating corruption angle and DMA for departmental inquiry of the concerned officers”, he stated.
