PANJIM Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress’ candidates are slated to file their nomination papers on Monday for the Lok Sabha elections, to be held on April 12, on Monday. The last date for filing nomination is March 26.
The North Goa candidates of BJP and Congress-Shripad Naik and Ravi Naik would be filing the papers before the North district returning officer in the morning, while south candidates- Narendra Sawaikar and Alexio Reginaldo Lourenco would be filing in the afternoon before returning officer South district.
BJP South Goa candidate Sawaikar is contesting the parliament election for the second time. He was previously defeated by Congress candidate Francisco Sardinha in 2009. Congress candidate Lourenco is sitting MLA and contesting MP election for the first time.
Goa Democratic Front (GDF) candidate Dayanand Narvekar and Aam Admi party (AAP) candidate Dataram Desai are also likely to file their nominations on Monday.
The notification for filing nominations comes into force on March 19. So far, only Communist Party of India (CPI) candidates- Adv Suhas Naik (North) and Adv Raju Mangueshkar (South) has filed their nominations. Last day of nomination is March 26 and scrutiny of nomination paper would be done on March 27. The last day of withdrawals is on March 29 and the date of polling is April 12. The results would be announced on May 16.
