MARGAO: The district-level committee constituted to check and monitor mid-day meal scheme headed by Collector South N D Agrawal on Friday decided to ask all the schools to display in the school premises the location where the mid-day meal is cooked and the timings when the same is supplied to the school.
The meeting reviewed the situation following incidents of food poisoning in the state and steps undertaken to check and monitor the implementation of the scheme. Officials of Food and Drugs Administration, Chief Officers of Municipal Councils, education department officials attended the meeting.
After the meeting, Agrawal said the meeting has decided to ask all schools to display in their premises the source where the mid-day meal is prepared and the timings when it is supplied to the school. “This will help the Committee to conduct surprise inspection of the kitchens and check the food supplied to the students. We have asked the FDA to carry out checks of the kitchens where the mid-day meal is prepared,” he said.
Replying to a question, he said though the Committee’s brief is to meet once in three months, the meeting has decided to meet every month.
He said the Committee would also mobilise the block-level committees to take the initiative to its logical conclusion.
