CUNCOLIM : Under fire Cuncolim police inspector (PI) Ram Asre was relieved of his duty and transferred on Sunday.
The PI has been under tremendous criticism for his abject handling of high profile cases like the non arrest of non Goan boys suspected to be carrying drugs and on the spate of fatal accidents where angry residents had protested on the streets after they were upset with the police investigations.
The PI has been given charge of the Ponda traffic cell while Gurudas Kamat has been posted as the new PI.
It is to be noted that in the aftermath of the Ambaulim fatal accident, the residents of Ambaulim had demanded his immediate transfer/suspension and the CID is currently investigating the case and the police negligence.
There was widespread anger at the method of investigation adopted by the police under PI Rak Asre. People were also questioning the action of not arresting four youth who had assaulted another two youth a couple of days back.
