PANJIM: Power Minister Pandurang Madkaikar on Friday termed the proposed road blockade on Saturday protesting frequent power cuts in Cuncolim constituency as ‘unnecessary’.
Madkaikar said, “The road blockade and protest is completely wrong and unnecessary. I feel it is done for political publicity and free mileage. The MLA (Clafacio Dias) has not given a single proposal to Power Department nor has he come and met me with the any proposal.”
He added, “We have undertaken revised estimates of electrical works and it is in tendering phase and despite knowing this, the local MLA is having this protest for publicity. Eight days back we received a letter from the MLA for which the department immediately replied that the works are in tendering stage and all the administration approvals have been attained.”
He said that new works of Rs 7.73 crore will shortly be tendered which involves installing 14 new and renovating 35 existing transformers, single LT lines to be converted into three lines and erection of new HT lines.
