PANJIM: Late Saturday night the government clarified that the decision on holding polls to the municipal councils in the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic situation is yet to be conveyed.
The government had earlier accorded approval to the State Election Commission to hold the elections to 11 municipal councils on October 18, 2020 vide letter dated January 7, 2020, much before the onset of present pandemic.
Currently, the government is re-evaluating the recommendation/approval in light of the prevailing COVID-19 situation in the State.
On Friday, the SEC had said that the municipal election date had been fixed for October, attracting criticism from the opposition.
