PANJIM: Governor of Goa Bharat Vir Wanchoo has extended his greetings and best wishes to the people of Goa on Goa Statehood Day.

The Governor has said May 30 is, indeed, a memorable day in the political history of Goa, for it was on this day in 1987 that Goa became the 25th State of the Indian Union. Statehood gave Goa a distinct identity and individuality, besides providing ample opportunities to shape destiny.

He expressed his deep concern over the frequent occurrence of grave and heinous crimes, particularly against women and young girls and said these crimes lower the image and fair name of the state

Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar in his message has said Statehood Day is an appropriate occasion to ponder over what we have achieved during last 26 years.
