MARGAO: Sabita Mascarenhas, who was ousted as Sarpanch of Sarzora Village, on Wednesday blamed MLAs for this development and told the large crowd gathered at the panchayat premises that she would contest the next assembly elections to teach the MLAs a befitting lesson.
Five of the seven panchayat members voted in favour of the no confidence motion even as a large crowd stood with black flags and posters outside the panchayat building protesting against the no-confidence motion.
The crowd shouted slogans against the panchayat members who moved the no-confidence motion. The crowd that gathered and supported Sabita cheered her when Sabita walked out after the motion was approved.
Perpetua Mascarenhas was the only panchayat member who stood by Sabita. Tomacina Fernandes who was the first signatory to the no confidence motion said that no works were done in her ward and added that even others who signed the no confidence motion had the same complaint.
However, Sabita while addressing the crowd after she was voted out, said neighbouring village MLA Clafasio Dias had a meeting in his house with the Sarzora panchayat members where it was decided to move the no-confidence motion against her.
“In fact even today the MLA’s car came to drop the panchayat members to the panchayat ghar,” she said while adding that she was ousted only because she was not allowing illegalities and because panchayat members could not “make money while she was in chair”.
