PORVORIM: Jewellery and cash valued at Rs 4.4 lakh was stolen in broad daylight from the house of a home guard, attached to the Mapusa Police, at Mapusa on Saturday morning. According to Mapusa Police, burglars broke into the flat of Home Guard Rajendra Phatarpekar and decamped with gold worth Rs 4 lakh and cash of Rs 40,000 from the cupboard.
The incident took place when Rajendra Phatarpekar and his wife were at work. When the wife returned home at 2 pm, she found the door open and the house ransacked.
A Mapusa Police team went to the crime site and also pressed a police dog and fingerprints experts into service. Police Sub Inspector Ratnakar Calangutker is investigating the case.
