Hearing on SEZs adjourned
HERALD REPORTER
PANJIM, APRIL 15
Hearing in SEZ petitions was adjourned once again on Thursday on request of the SEZ stakeholders and Court will hear the petitions next on April 27.
The SEZ promoters have challenged the notices issued by Goa Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) for withdrawal of land allotted to them.
A batch of petitions filed by SEZ promoters -Meditab Specialities Pvt Ltd,
Peninsular Pharma Research Centre Pvt Ltd, Paradigm Logistic & Distribution Private Ltd, Planetview Mercantile Company Pvt Ltd, Inox Mercantile Company Pvt Ltd and Maxgrow Finlease Pvt Ltd, are pending before High Court which were filed immediately after GIDC served them with show cause notices on withdrawal of the SEZ policy by the State Government.
On June 15, 2009 the State government revoked SEZ policy following a cabinet decision. But it was public pressure that compelled the government to scrape SEZ development in the State.
The SEZs promoters have submitted that they invested heavily in the projects and have suffered huge losses due to stop-work orders issued.
On April 27, the court will also hear a couple of Public Interest Litigations (PILs) filed by villagers of Keri, Sancoale and Verna, challenging GIDC’s decision allotting land in their respective villages on lease agreements to SEZ promoters. It is their case that the land was fraudulently allotted.
