PANJIM: The Goa State Committee (GSC) of the All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) accused Goa Cricket Association of unfair labour practices.
GSC in a press statement revealed that the State cricket governing body’s management has not paid the salaries to the workmen and staff and advised to immediately release the withheld salaries of the workmen and employees.
“Goa Cricket Association (GCA) has failed to pay monthly earned salaries to the workmen / staff employees employed by GCA for the month of June, 2018. As per payment of wages Act, 1936, the monthly earned salaries are to be disbursed on or before 5th day of every succeeding month. However, the management of GCA has violated the statutory provisions of Payment of Wages Act, 1936,” stated Goa State Committee AITUC in its letter.
The letter adds that the office of Labour Commissioner has been informed by the AITUC Union. However, no action has been taken so far in this matter.
“All the staff employees & workmen employed at GCA who have unionized themselves under the banner of Goa Trade & Commercial Worker’ Union (AITUC) are been selectively harassed and victimized,” stated the letter.
GSC also accused GCA of harassment of workmen & staff employees for leave, their salaries are not paid in time. “Inspite of recording regular attendance the workmen are marked absent. As revenge some unionized workmen are transferred to fair off places. Overtime is not paid for working on extended hours,” said the statement.
“All these acts of GCA management amounts to Unfair Labour Practices are unwarranted and uncalled for,” said the statement.
AITUC advised GCA management to immediately release the withheld salaries of the workmen and employees.
“The AITUC warns the GCA management that in case the above harassment and victimization of workmen and staff employees does not stop immediately , all workmen & staff employees would be constrained to hold demonstration before the office of the GCA at Porvorim highlighting the illegalities committed by GCA and its office – bearers,” said the letter.
