PANJIM: After the thunderstorm on Tuesday night, when the state received its first heavy pre-monsoon showers accompanied by lightning, Wednesday was a comparatively brighter day punctuated with light drizzles.
Tuesday the Capital received rain for most of the evening with the heavier showers being reserved for the hours after sundown before tapering out towards late evening. The Met Department recorded 1.3 mm of rainfall on Tuesday.
However, on Wednesday, though the weather remained partly cloudy with prospects of rain, it did not pour in contrast to Tuesday when roads were water logged, and power cuts occurred.
However, the fall in temperature, which gave respite from the blistering heat was welcomed by Panjimites as also people from elsewhere. The pre-monsoon showers brought down the maximum and minimum temperature, which were almost 35 degree Celsius and 29 degree Celsius, respectively, for the entire month of May.
On Wednesday, the maximum and minimum temperature remained at 31 and 22 degree Celsius.
As per IMD, Margao received the highest rainfall (9mm) on Tuesday, followed by Sanguem (7mm), Ponda (5mm), Mapusa and Mormugao (4mm). While Canacona received the lowest amount of rainfall, Valpoi received no showers.
The Met Dartment meanwhile has forecast more showers over the next couple of days in few parts of Goa accompanied by thunder and lightning..
