Mobor Fisheries gets notice for creating nuisance

MARGAO: Chinchinim Health Centre’s medical officer issued a notice to Mobor Fisheries, Cavelossim for conducting activities which, according to the official, constitutes a nuisance as defined under Section 37 of the Goa Public Health Act 1985.
The medical officer had conducted an inspection on October 11, 2018 wherein he observed that commercial activities comprising of boat repairs, fish net mending, salting of fish were carried out at the site without No Objection Certificate from the Health Department. 
“This action is a violation of Section 29 of the Goa Public Health Act 1985”, states the notice. Moreover,  it was observed that sullage from the establishment is being discharged in the open.
The medical officer directed the operator of Mobor Fisheries, Miguel Rodrigues, to immediately apply for NOC from the office for carrying out the commercial activity, ensure that there is no sullage within 7 days at the site and dispose the same in a sanitary manner.
The complaint is filed by one Ivan Gerard Rodrigues, who claims to be owner of the land on which the activities are carried out. He has also complained to the GCZMA, Goa State Pollution Control Board and the Goa Police against what he calls “illegal and unauthorised” activities.
