VASCO: Tense situation prevailed at Upasnagar-Sancoale on Wednesday when residents of Mahalaxmi Residency Colony strongly protested against the blocking of the access road by dumping mud allegedly by the Comunidade of Sancoale.
The residents complained that due to dumping of mud, access leading to about 150 houses was blocked and demanded that the mud be removed.
The agitated residents contacted the local panchayat member and Cortalim MLA Antonio Vas, who rushed back from Panjim and assured the residents that he would resolve the issue.
Vas spoke to the Comunidade of Sancoale managing committee members and the Mormugao Dy Collector and asked them to clear the road by removing the mud by Thursday much to the relief of the residents. He also disclosed his plans to construct a road for the residents as demanded by them at the time of Assembly elections.
After inspecting the site Vas said that he has requested the Comunidade of Sancoale to give them land to construct the road. While, the Deputy Collector requested the residents to submit a memorandum signed by all the residents to him by Thursday.
One of the residents Shankar Pandit said that they had already signed a memorandum which will now be submitted to the Deputy Collector for immediate action. He said that though there was a road from the other end, the residents have been using the mud road for the last many years.
