VASCO: The boat and canoe owners from Vasco have criticised fish trader Maulana Ibrahim for asking traditional fishermen to get trade licence.
They have held Ibrahim responsible for the people of Goa losing fish from their plate.
Addressing a press conference here, the boat and canoe owners said that a trader like Ibrahim has no right to make statements and pass mandates on the traditional fishermen of Goa.
Jose Philip D’Souza, the president of Mormugao Boat Owners Association, said, “This trader Ibrahim has earlier demanded the resignation of the Health Minister Vishwajit Rane and now has the audacity to issue orders to traditional fishermen. We must remind him that today 50 percent of Goans have quit eating fish due to his actions. He has to be thrown out of the fish market.”
Custodio D’Souza, a fishermen attached to the association, said that the statements of Ibrahim have angered the fishermen.
“There is some minister or MLA is supporting Ibrahim and we will show what happens when someone challenges Goans,” he said.
It may be recalled that the fish trader Maulana Ibrahim had asked the boat owners to get licence for trade and this statement has not gone down well for the fishermen of Goa.
