VALPOI/BICHOLIM: Over 25 employees of a company at Honda-Sattari were hospitalised due to suspected food poisoning on Tuesday.
According to sources, the incident occurred in the morning when some workers were having bhaji from the canteen. The workers reportedly found a wall lizard in the bhaji and some of them started complaining of stomachache.
Sources further informed that the workers were rushed to the Sanquelim primary health centre.
“In all, we attended to 25 workers, out of which 15 were soon discharged, the others were given some medication and only two were kept on saline,” hospital sources told Herald.
“It was more of psychological nature rather than physical,” added the sources.
Meanwhile, an official from the company confirmed that the incident took place on Tuesday morning when workers were having their breakfast. “When a worker spotted a lizard in his plate, he started vomiting and due to irritation few other workers also complained of stomachache,” informed the official.
“About 15 workers were rushed to the Sanquelim primary health centre in a company vehicle and after medical treatment, all the 15 workers discharged from the hospital.”
“All the workers, who were referred to Sanquelim PHC, were back to work in the afternoon except one worker who was advised to take rest by the doctor,” said the official and added that the situation is under control.
Meanwhile, sources from the Valpoi community health centre informed that no worker from the company was hospitalized on Tuesday.
