PANJIM: Pending decision on re-opening of the schools for the new academic year 2020-21, the State government has directed all the teaching and non-teaching staff of the schools, under its jurisdiction, to resume duty from Wednesday.
In a circular issued on Tuesday, Director Education Vandana Rao, however, has said that the directions do not apply to the schools in containment zone, the teachers residing in the containment zone and the schools taken over by the Disaster Management Authority.

“Further, the employees, whose children have benchmark physical or intellectual disabilities can be permitted to work from home, provided they remain available on telephone and other online means,” Rao said.
Furthermore, the pregnant employees are also granted exemption to work from home.
“The management of all the schools under the jurisdiction of the department are informed to ensure that their staff should report to the respective schools with immediate effect,” she added.
Rao said that the department had advised schools to support their students through every possible means including online. The schools were advised to come up with alternatives for the students who couldn’t participate in online or offline teaching.
“The online or offline classes conducted by the teachers are meant to engage the students and to support them till such time as the schools reopen,” she said.
On the commencement of the regular classes, the teachers will cover up the entire syllabus for the academic year, so that no student is left out.
Rao said that till such time the schools reopen, the teachers should prepare worksheets, lectures, etc and reach out to the students not connected via online means, in addition to carry out the online teaching.
Schools in Goa are shut since March 15 in wake of COVID outbreak.
