MARGAO: “The Government departments of Goa are actively hand in gloves with M/s Dilip Buildcon to play havoc with Goas’ fragile ecology like cutting of hills, axing of trees, encroaching on khazan land, polluting water bodies etc,” Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco has alleged.
In a two-page letter to the Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, the MLA further accused the CM of hoodwinking Goemkars by approving the traffic diversion or closure of the road.
In the letter, the MLA objected to the fact that the legislatures were not informed that the Cortalim-Verna road or internal road beside Keservla spring connecting Quelossim village would be closed.
“Neither the engineers nor the technical person connected with this bridge ever had spoken that the busy Cortalim- Verna road or internal road beside Keserval Spring connecting Quelossim village would be closed,” he said.
He added that M/s Dilip Buildcon is systematically destroying the environment. “When commuting between Agassaim and Cortalim one can see both at Agassaim side a big shed being constructed on the left hand side of Zuari bridge and a cement belching plant on the right-hand side the bridge. Both constructions are done on the khazan land and also on a small marshy land full of mangroves,” he said.
He stated that the government servants, private sector employees, students, air travellers from as far away taluka and even senior citizens and medical patients would also bear the uncalled for brunt of “mad decision” of road closure and road diversion.
Lourenco requested the CM that “as M/s Dilip Buildcon (work) has turned into a disastrous environment nightmare for Goa and its people, it is advisable that no further government orders be issued on road closure/ or on diversion of traffic.”
