Areal villagers to oppose scrap yards

The gram sabha of Sao Jose de Areal on Sunday resolved to oppose the setting up of the scrap yards in the Nessai Industrial Estate.
The issue figured at the Sunday gram sabha when members demanded to know the fate of the scrap yards dotting the village countryside. When the members were informed that that around 24 applications have been made for relocation of the illegal scrap yards in the Nessai Industrial Estate, they strongly opposed the same.
Members pointed out that instead of shifting the illegal scrap yards, action ought to be initiated as per the law for their removal from the village.
The members also took strong objection to the filling of a drinking well by a scrap yard owner. Members demanded that the well be desilted and samples be dispatched to the laboratory for analysis.
On the NOC issued to a stone crusher, gram sabha members called for revocation of the NOC issued to a crusher with immediate effect. The sewage disposal at the Ramnagar area also figured with members demanding urgent action in the matter to prevent a health hazard for the locals.
