PANJIM: Reiterating that the party will fight the 2017 Assembly elections alone, the Congress on Tuesday ruled out the all possibility of entering into alliance with its former allies Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party, or with Goa Vikas Party (GVP).
Stating that the State party president Luizinho Faleiro is looking to form a ‘Super Mahagatbandhan’ by uniting all secular-minded people in Goa against the BJP, Congress spokesperson Agnelo Fernandes claimed the party doesn’t need the support of any independent candidates or MLAs for the 2017 polls.
Addressing media persons, Fernandes said Faleiro is clear in his stand that Congress can fight the upcoming Assembly elections alone but would like to form a grand alliance by uniting all secular-minded people in the State. “Why should we go to any party or any independent MLAs? If independent leaders want they can join the party now,” he said.
He announced that the party will never have alliance with MGP and GVP, both of which are currently supporting the BJP government. “We have also distanced ourselves from NCP. NCP is joining hands with BJP in Maharashtra… we would not like to take support from such parties,” he said.
He, however, admitted, that in due course of time, the political situation and equations may change.
