Like every other tropical region, Goa receives a fair share of
downpours during the monsoon season. From a mild drizzle to thundershowers, the
weather has a unique way of expressing itself. Once the showers start, Goa’s
green cover also gets brighter and fresher. It’s hard to resist the temptation
of spending an evening gazing at the rains, with a hot cup of tea and a platter
of hot pakoras. Another change in the daily routine is the wardrobe. The rains
will see us storing away our summer wear and opting for easy drying, light
garments that don’t sweep the floors and of course, rainwear.

I love to go on bike rides with my friends while it’s raining.
Hot chocolate in this weather is just yum. Monsoon photography is also
something I love doing so that I can capture beautiful memories with green
bright scenery, especially peacocks with their feathers open. I can see them
just behind my house and the sight never fails to steal my breath. Clicking a
photo of them before they disappear from sight is quite an achievement.

As the monsoons start, the first thing that pops up in
everyone’s mind is kanda bhaji, masala chai and pakoras. It’s a treat to our
taste buds and leaves us satiated, in more ways that just our appetite. Talking
about the first rain, the smell of the mud is overwhelming. Some of the most
enjoyable moments are playing football in the mud, visiting waterfalls and
making paper boats with small children. These small things still make me happy
and crazy about the monsoon season.
DHARAM KALAVADIYA, Porvorim
The monsoons are my most favourite season as I enjoy seeing
different phases of Mother Nature. Soup is one of my favourite dishes in the
monsoons as it keeps me fit and healthy in this season. Nibbling on roasted
corn with masala in the rain is an experience in itself. I prefer family
outings with long drives and creating memories with some cute snapshots.
Different types of floral prints on umbrellas attract me and I do not resist
buying them and flaunting them everywhere. I enjoy losing myself in the season.
It’s ‘me time’ for me.
RISHINA GUPTE, St Inez
I beg my mother to make hot pakoras, bhajis and chai when it’s
raining. Watching the world go by from your window, while sipping on some hot
tea is a calming feeling. As it is already raining in Goa, I love to make paper
boats and get wet in the first rain and I have already started playing in the
rain. I have my own fun in this special season.
