MARGAO: In yet another incident of hooliganism at Rumdamol-Navelim, two men assaulted a Navelim resident with sharp objects in front of his family.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident took place on Sunday at around 4.30. The victim, Akbar, was travelling in a Tata ACE vehicle with his wife and children when they were ambushed by the two men. The men, known as Javed and Johnny, knocked Akbar down and proceeded to assault him with a sword and sticks. Akbar’s daughter was injured in the melee, while his vehicle was damaged. The assailants fled the scene soon after.
Angry locals called for strict police action and government intervention to arrest the accused. They demanded that a strong deterrent be set to reign in such cases of hooliganism and gang violence, which are on the rise.
While Margao police are yet to verify the eyewitnesses’ claims, they registered a non-cognizable complaint based on the complaint filed by the victim. Sources state that main accused, Javed, hails from Malbhat, Margao.
