Margao: The Margao Municipal Council which was sworn in to power after a clean sweep on 5th of November turned 2 and half years old under leadership of Babita Angle as Chairperson. The people living within the limits of Margao Municipal Council, gave an overwhelming majority council to the Model Margao/Fatorda Forward combination and enjoyed power and Majority till 2017. Now, the Fatorda Forward has tied up with the BJP panel and distanced itself from Model Margao and has gotten more powerful. The Council has succeeded in earning a lot of revenue and getting the administration revamped by transferring employees.
However, in spite of these advantages, performance has been mixed. They have done very well in some areas and urgent attention is required in the areas of Sonsodo, garbage management, traffic and parking issue and others. There have been several issues which have remained still for 2 and a half years. However the beginning of the work of KTC and SGPDA market has just begun. Planning for ktc has begun.
The promises made by the Fatorda Forward panel for Fatorda remain either mid way towards completion or are being completed to a certain extent.
With the MMC bound to go for elections in 2020 the MMC will have an uphill task to keep face elections as there are several unanswered questions that the people await answers for.
The Chairperson of MMC Babita Angle while reacting to the entire performance of the municipality said that she is happy with the performance of MMC with the given amount of resources she inherited in 2015. “We are positive to fulfill all our promises till the term end. We are hopeful” she said.
