CANACONA: With authorities taking precautionary measures, as many as six families were ordered to move out of their houses within the 100-metre radius of the tilted block of the Ruby Residency building.
Incidentally, the government office complex which houses most government offices, including the deputy collectorate and mamlatdar offices, falls within close distance of the complex.
While authorities have issued directions to vacate the residential house of Madhuri Naik located in the backyard of the government office complex, five more families, mostly migrants, staying in rented accommodations behind the government office complex have also been told to vacate the area after the retaining wall gave way and one block of Ruby Residency building began to tilt on Monday afternoon.
Policemen have cordoned the area fearing people may return to their houses.
Even though authorities could not ascertain where the evacuees will be housed, two migrant family members,
who were found by this correspondent sitting behind the government office complex, informed they were asked to vacate their residential unit and move elsewhere.
“Our landlord asked us to come to his place to stay for
the night, but we plan to pass the night here,” informed a family member.
