PANJIM/VASCO: Deputy Speaker Vishnu Wagh was airlifted to Mumbai’s Hinduja hospital on Thursday as his health condition remained critical. Wagh was shifted in an air ambulance from Dabolim airport at 9.15 pm.
Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) Dean Dr Pradeep Naik said Wagh was accompanied by doctors from Hinduja and GMC till Mumbai hospital. Naik said he was shifted to Hinduja hospital on request of the family members.
A large number of Wagh’s supporters and well wishers were gathered at GMC while he was being shifted to Mumbai. He was escorted by Goa Police jeeps to the airport.
The ambulance reached Dabolim airport at about 8.45 pm and was directly taken to the Air Ambulance through the cargo gate. Traffic arrangements to ensure quick passage for the ambulance were made along the route with police personnel present at crossroads and junctions.
Naik clarified that Wagh was shifted by a private ambulance to the airport due to unavailability of a ventilator-mounted vehicle with GMC.
Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar visited GMC twice on Thursday. Initially in the morning he met with the team of doctors to review Wagh’s medical condition. After meeting the doctors, Parsekar had told reporters that Wagh may have to be shifted to Hinduja hospital.
Later in the evening, Parsekar again visited the hospita, when the MLA was being transferred to the airport. Wagh, a journalist-turned-politician, was admitted to GMC on August 15 after he complained of uneasiness. The MLA was diagnosed with high blood pressure and sugar levels. He was placed on a ventilator in the Cardiac Care Unit.
Parsekar, Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza and other MLAs besides Wagh’s family members were present at the airport.
