GSPCB nod for dealing with Sonsoddo legacy waste

PANJIM: The Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) has granted permission to the Solid Waste Management Corporation (SWMC) to commence the process for dealing with the legacy waste lying at Sonsoddo garbage dump site for several years. 
The submission was made before the High Court of Bombay at Goa wherein the Bench was also informed that authorities have however not been able to identify a site for disposal of non-biodegradable waste. 
The court has adjourned the matter for Friday wherein government is likely to provide details of site proposed for non-biodegradable waste. 
During the last hearing, the High Court had asked the GSPCB and Margao Municipal Council (MMC) to submit ‘pointers’ on the processing and disposal process of legacy dump at Sonsoddo. 
The MMC had stated that a suitable site for segregation and processing the legacy dump has been identified and the landfill is admeasuring 1,600 sq mtrs approx. Also, the SWMC will undertake the task.
