Margao & me, asks Sawaikar
When Herald-HCN was shortlisting panelists for the debate, the first to be approached to represent the BJP was South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar to discuss Margao’s garbage burden. But the MP was quick to ask why he should discuss Margao’s garbage problems. Our question to him is, “Didn’t Madgavkars vote for you in the last polls and make you a Member of Parliament?” But Sawaikar did the usual and gave the debate a slip while he’s been busy posting Facebook statuses of places he’s been to.

Our next try was the Urban Development Minister, Francisco D’Souza. But the man just got back from a USA holiday (mind you he’s been on multiple Australia, Canada and UK holidays too over the last few years). But Babush was quick to say, “You know, I have empowered all municipalities in Goa to function. Let the chairperson speak if garbage is an issue. It’s not my job.” Urban Development and Town and Country Planning Minister, seriously? Its not your job?
Alexio Manohar Lourenco?
Not to miss, Reginaldo Lourenco’s clicmagnetic spectacles that split in the middle and hang on a tight cord, the same type of frames as Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar. The most vocal Congress MLA who speaks out against Parrikar and coined the U-turn minister paraphrase for Parrikar, Reginaldo seems to be following the defence minister in every aspect from khakis to shirt out and now the clicmagnetic glasses. The Curtorim champ has only to lose some weight to fit Bhai’s shoes.

This week for us, all the action was in Margao. The first thing that comes to mind is Madgavkars yelling their resentment against Digambar Kamat at the recently organized debate. With them shouting in large numbers to go home and ‘you are useless’ curses, it was exciting to watch how Kamat took all the insults in his stride and kept a straight face through all of it.

On the other hand, Savio Coutinho was very witty at the Herald organized Battle for Margao debate. When he was allotted just two minutes to speak after Nilesh Cabral, Digambar Kamat, Vijai Sardessai, Reginaldo Lourenco, Shridhar Kamat and Arthur D’Silva had spoken, he was quick to say, “After wasting one and a half hours on all these nonsense speakers, now I get only five minutes?” Harsh words there by Savio on the elected babus.

And then there was Kamat, Sardessai and Reginaldo’s boys making calls to see that they had the largest consortium in the audience to jeer the other speakers and hail their leader through the debate. Funny how these election gimmicks are available on call through the year.

This week has been about Luizinho claiming the support of muslims, BJP’s Sheikh Jinna telling him that he has no muslims on his side and shouldn’t simply talk, Churchill saying he’s ready to give up Navelim for his Congress return, Mickky spending week two in jail, Margao flooding and that too around the MMC building, Francisco D’Souza, deputy CM returning from his America holiday, Joaquim irked at Congress and Sudin stuck in some fake education qualifications row.
