The District Magistrate, South has issued directions to various government agencies to expedite and completing all works involving digging within the next 10 days or face action.
With the monsoons fast approaching, the District Magistrate G P Naik had a meeting with officials from the PWD, WRD, GSIDC, Margao Municipality and others wherein certain works were reviewed given the continuance of work at the site.
The four-lane Navelim Church-Fly over road was discussed in detail, wherein the Magistrate drew attention of the slow pace of work by the contractor. The contractor, however, conveyed to the Magistrate that work was held up because of the delay by the government agencies to plug flow of sewage waters from residential buildings onto the road.
Given the situation, the Magistrate has issued directions to the contractor as well as the Margao Municipality to work in tandem and plug the sewage discharge within the next three days.
Sources in the know said the Magistrate told the MMC that the civic body should take all possible measures, including deploying the night soil tankers to drain the sewage waters flowing onto the road to facilitate the contractor to expedite the work.
Naik later told newsmen that he had convened the meeting since most of the works undertaken by various government agencies remains incomplete and unattended.
“I have told officials of the GSIDC, WRD, PWD and MMC to complete the ongoing works before the monsoons. I have made it very clear that these works should be expedited since they are likely to pose danger to the public”, he added.
He said these agencies have been served 10 days deadline to complete the works, adding that 10 days should be adequate for the agencies to complete all works.
