PANJIM: The State government has extended the last date of tender for commissioning RO-RO (Roll-on/roll-off) ferry boats in the State due to poor response.
Speaking to reporters, River Navigation Minister Subhash Phal Dessai said that the date was extended by a fortnight since the government received only one bid for the tender. The River Navigation Department (RND) will now get to know the exact position on December 6.
The State government has mooted to have two solar-powered Ro-RO ferryboats along the lines of the Kerala module where alternate energy ferries are operational. The State government has approved the introduction of Ro-Ro ferries in Goa.
The ferries are to ply on Ribandar-Chorao route. A Ro-Ro ferry can ferry 50 passengers and accommodate 12-14 four-wheelers. The RND had floated tender on October 20 and the same was to be opened this month.
