According to reports, the girl’s mother had chided her daughter for wasting time and playing on the tablet PC, instead of concentrating on her studies. However, the girl took offence at her mother’s scolding and confined herself to a room and took the drastic step of committing suicide by hanging herself at about 3.15 pm.
Expressing sadness over the loss of a precious life, Ponda PI C L Patil said, “The reason was petty. The girl was supposed to answer her last paper on Saturday, but she took the drastic step of ending her life.”
The incident brought back memories of a similar incident at Usgao last year, when two brothers had quarrelled over the use of a tablet PC, which was in possession of one of the brothers. The quarrel ended in tragedy when one brother committed suicide.
In another incident at Tiverem-Marcel, Sudesh Ganokar (39) committed suicide by jumping into a well near his residence. PSI Gokuldas Malik conducted the panchanama.
Meanwhile, the body of a labourer was found at Borim on Friday.
