CURCHOREM: The stray cattle menace continues on the main road at Kakumoddi between Xeldem and Tilamol inspite of several demands made by the people to the authorities, including the Xeldem panchayat.
Residents are complaining that the stray cattle is squatting on the main road between Xeldem and Quepem almost every day causing inconvenience to the motorists and pedestrians too and the authorities are doing nothing to sort out this mess.
When contacted Xeldem Sarpanch Pramod Gauns Dessai admitted the cattle menace and informed that they are having a cattle shed to house them and only one pond keeper which is not sufficient to impound them. “Even if we impound them they come and sit on the streets the next day and with one person we cannot do the work of impounding them on regular basis,” said Dessai. He assured to look into the matter.
It may be recalled that few years back Curchorem MLA and now Power Minister Nilesh Cabral tackled the problem with the help of government vehicle which was brought to lift stray cattle from the roads in the State. But now the herd of cattle is seen again at many places on the roads, including in Curchorem market obstructing not only motorists, but pedestrians too.
People are now eagerly waiting when the authorities will act and keep the roads free from cattle menace to avoid accidents and inconvenience to the public.
