CALANGUTE: Gurudas Kankonkar of Nauxim defeated Gregory Vaz of Calangute in the final to emerge winner of the 19th all-Goa Coconut breaking contest organised by Active Boys of Calangute, at Calangute Association ground recently.
In all, 25 participants took part in the competition. Each participant was allowed to contest with 5 coconuts each. After several rounds of games Gurudas Kankonkar with 5 coconuts and Greg Vaz with 1 coconut entered the final.
In the deciding hit Greg’s coconut broke leaving Gurudas Kankonkar as the winner.
The winner was awarded prize of Rs 15,000 while the runners-up had to be content with Rs 10,000 plus trophies.
Deputy Speaker Goa Legislative Assembly and MLA of Calangute Constituency Michael Lobo was the chief guest who along with President of Calangute Association Alirio Lobo gave away the prizes.
Sarpanch of Village Panchayat Calangute Shawn Martin, Alex Fernandes, Padma K Nair, assistant entertainment secretary of Calangute Association Jerry D’souza, Benedict Rodrigues were also present.
Salvador Lobo proposed the vote of thanks.
