Poddar Housing, Hemant Jalan to face off for glory

PANJIM: Poddar Housing, Mumbai and Hemant Jalan, Kolkata will face off in the final for the K K  Modi Gold Trophy at the Goa Bridge Festival being played at the Gaspar Dias Club, Miramar, on Saturday. 
Deepak Poddar’s team also comprising Jitu Solani, Anal Shah, Subhash Dhakras, Milind Athavale and Rajesh Dalal beat Samadan team also from Mumbai to book their spot in the final.
In the other semi finals, Hemant Jalan’s team with members Ashish Malhotra, Kaustubh Nandi, Kaustubh Bendre, Sayantan Kushari and Sagnik Roy trounced the Delhi team of Promila Saraf.
In the Silver teams event for the Manohar Keni trophy, Anmol team from Dombivli and Panchi team from Pune reached the final after beating TBA from Telangana and Mango Star from Ratnagiri.
A record of 61 teams from 16 states participated in this edition. 
Non-qualifiers played a gruelling three sessions of elimination rounds to select the 22 pairs that will play the Finals of the Rajaram Hede Trophy IMP Pairs event. 
They will be joined by the two seeded pairs comprising Asian Games Gold Medal winners Pranab Bardhan and Shibnath Dey Sarkar. This pairs finals will be decided over 42 board all play all match with barometric scoring.
A match point pair’s event for the Padmashree Vasantrao Dempo Trophy will also conducted for eligible pairs.
 This event will have special prizes for ladies pairs, mixed pairs and juniors. All finals will be played on Sunday.
