PORVORIM: United on a demand to improve the quality of education, the Opposition benches on Thursday claimed that students passing through Goa Board find it difficult to compete with students from CBSE and ICSE schools, due to the poor standard. Congress MLAs urged the government to introspect and upgrade the Goa Board syllabus.
“Compared to CBSE and ICSE, Goa Board syllabus is of very low standard and hence students find it difficult to compete with it at professional level,” Congress MLA Subhash Shirodkar said. He said that it’s time the government considered improving the quality of education.
Supporting him, MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco said, “Our students are not able to cope or compete with the CBSE or ICSC students. Their level of education is much higher compared to what is taught in Goa Board.”
Nilkant Halarnkar pointed out that poor quality education in government schools is forcing parents to opt for private schools and especially schools that provide CBSE courses.
Lobo urged the government that grants be given not just for salary but also for developing and maintaining infrastructure.
