panjim:The depositors of Mapusa Urban Cooperative Bank (MUCB) have demanded return of their deposits.
The depositors have been fighting, since July 2015, to get their deposits back. And on January 14 this year, they filed a complaint at the Panjim police station against the managerial staff and board members for granting “bad loans”. They have also filed a complaint with the Economic Offence Wing of Goa Police and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
Addressing media persons, senior citizen and depositor Joseph Corneiro said, “We do not want charity or alms. We want our money back. Waiting for police, economic offence wing or Finance Minister to take action and help us. We, 55 of us, have filed complaints with them.”
Prabhakar Salgaonkar, another depositor, said, “We have been running to Panjim police station every day since January 14 just to find out whether they have registered an FIR or not. However, they are not letting us know as they are always busy in the court.”
Approximately three lakh individuals have accounts in MUCB which has 24 branches in Goa and has a total deposit of Rs 340 crore.
Dr Ms Kunda Quenim and Arun Khaunte complained that their fixed deposits with the bank have matured long back, but the bank is not disbursing the amount.
