PANJIM: Goa men’s and women’s team registered resounding wins in their respective encounters in the Senior National Futsal Championship for men and women, held at SMs Indoor Stadium, Jaipur on Monday.
While the men’s team defeated Assam (3-0) and Gijarat (6-0), the women’s team thrashed Uttar Pradesh (6-0) and thumped four past Mumbai in their group encounters.
By virtue of these wins, both Goan teams are now qualified for the quarter-finals.
In Pool A, Goa women are grouped along with Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Mumbai.
In the first match, a fine brace from Michel Castanha along with a goal each from Malvita , Velanie Fernandes, Stessi and Reema helped Goa beat Uttar Pradesh.
In the second group match, Goa beat Mumbai 4-0 as Velanie Fernandes scored a hat-trick while Valanka D’Souza was the other goal scorer.
Goa men’s team are group along with Assam, Haryana and Gujarat.
Goa beat Assam in the first match as Joshuah Vaz scored a brace while Michael Silva scored another.
In the second match, Joshuah Vaz scored a brace again along with Fredson Marshal as Goa thumped Gujarat 6-0. Auzden Afonso and Caetano Fernandes were the other goal scorers.
