PANJIM: A few of the over 30 government teachers who retired between January 1, 1996 and December 31, 2000 and are still waiting to receive their rightful V Pay Commission benefits, have approached the High Court of Bombay at Goa. Some received the benefits after a court order.
Currently in two writ petitions, six of the teachers who retired during that period, have contended that the Department of Education (DoE) has done an injustice to them and they are entitled to receive the benefits.
The teachers have submitted that the High Court by order dated January 21, 2013 said that the DoE order dated June 12, 2001 is arbitrary and violative of Article 14 of the Constitution and accordingly the benefits of the Pay Commission was granted to nine of the retired teachers who had approached the HC.
The DoE order said that teachers availing teaching allowance would not receive V Pay Commission benefits, but the teachers contended that the pay commission’s benefit is rightful and teaching allowance is continued to teachers even after implementation of the benefits.
The matter came up for hearing in the court this week. State Advocate General Dattaprasad Lawande told the court that the contention of the teachers is technically correct and the file to clear the benefits to these teachers has been sent to the government.
Speaking to Herald one of the retired teachers said some teachers have expired and the remaining are still walking to court to get their rightful dues.
