PANJIM: Advocate Aires Rodrigues on Monday filed a complaint with the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) at Old Goa over the alleged illegal bungalow built by Power Minister Pandurang Madkaikar.
Copies of the complaint have been sent to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Goa Governor Mridula Sinha.
In his complaint Rodrigues has stated that in violation of law a bungalow has been built in survey Nos 144/1 and 144/2 by Madkaikar through his company Nikitasha Realtors Pvt Ltd within the prohibited 300 mts from the Centrally Protected Monument Basilica of Bom Jesus Church at Old Goa with the compound wall of the bungalow being less than 50 mts from the protected monument.
Rodrigues further said that on June 13, 2011 Madkaikar in reply to the show cause notice issued by ASI had given an undertaking to dismantle within three months the fencing which falls within 100 mts of the protected monument.
Rodrigues also pointed out that ASI by a notice on November 3, 2015 had directed Madkaikar to stop construction activity within the prohibited 300 mts from the centrally protected monument but Madkaikar chose to ignore the notice while ASI did not take coercive action to uphold the law.
Rodrigues has called upon ASI to conduct an immediate inspection of the illegal construction and to order the immediate demolition of the structure which is in violation of law.
