CANACONA: Four panchas have moved a no-confidence motion against Sarpanch Navneet Naik Gaunkar in the seven-member Agonda Panchayat.
According to sources, the four panchas submitted the no-confidence motion notice to Canacona BDO. They accused the sarpanch of not taking them into confidence while running the panchayat affairs.
The signatories are Deputy Sarpanch Pramod Faldessai, ex-sarpanch Dajula Pagui, Fenny Miranda and Sapnesh Dessai.
It may be recalled that in March, after ex-sarpanch Dajula Pagui was ousted in a no-confidence motion a month ago, six panchas voted to elect Navneeta Naik Gaonkar. Navneet and Dajula are the only two women panchas.
During the current term, the sarpancha’s post is reserved for women, and all eyes will be focused to know if the then ousted sarpanch Dajula Pagui will be reinstated or as previously alleged male panchas will gang up to keep away women panchas from occupying the post of sarpanch.
