In the village Panchayat of Pomburpa-Olaulim in ward number seven, there is a traditional pathway of 52 steps of three points which was built several decades ago.
The pathway leads to Alto-Palmar resident houses from the main road. The residents are regular tax-payers to the panchayat since its inspection and their main complaint is that roads have reached the mountain peaks and development is seen everywhere, even wards in the panchayat jurisdiction have been given a face lift, except this particular area where they do not have even a mini pathway, broad enough to go cycling to their residences, leaving alone thinking of taking your car there.
I do not understand why they are being neglected. Is it because they reside what can be termed as hinterland? On the northern side, opposite Dena Bank, the pathway leads to Alto-Palmar and in the monsoons it is very dangerous to climb the steps and come down during day or night.
Besides, there is no illumination near the steps, which seem age-old and have not been renovated or replaced and become very slippery during monsoons.
What’s more, there is no proper railing or anything to thwart the fall. There is a dire need for a retaining wall and steps would be taken so that the pathway is not washed away. Anyone falling would be hurt very badly.
In fact, during the last monsoons some part of the narrow path had collapsed and has become narrower that what is was. The slope is step and a void of four metres makes it perilous for those climbing up or down.
To put it in short the situation is nothing but an accident waiting to happen!
