The government has made it compulsory for all household to get themselves connected to the public sewerage system as and when the public sewage system is made available, PWD Minister Churchill Alemao told the Goa assembly on Thursday.
Replying to queries raised by Opposition members on sewerage, Alemao said that sewerage treatment plants at Margao and Vasco are operating at under-capacity because of reluctance of the public to avail of the connection.
Because of this, many a times, technical problems arise as sufficient required bacterial load is not getting generated, he said adding that this sometimes, leads to foul smell in the vicinity.
In order to overcome this situation, the government has recently passed bye-laws under Sewerage Act 2009 wherein taking sewerage connection has been made compulsory as and when the pubic sewerage system is launched.
