Goa to host Indo-US colloquium on climate, weather predictions

PANJIM: In a bid to strengthen and deepen the nations’ collaboration on earth and ocean observations for climate and weather prediction and cutting edge science designed to boost the economies of both nations, leaders of India’s Ministry of Earth Sciences will host leaders of the United States National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in Goa from June 11-13.

PANJIM: In a bid to strengthen and deepen the nations’ collaboration on earth and ocean observations for climate and weather prediction and cutting edge science designed to boost the economies of both nations, leaders of India’s Ministry of Earth Sciences will host leaders of the United States National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in Goa from June 11-13.
The multi-disciplinary event will bring together 200 delegates from India and the United States to address emerging ocean and earth science issues affecting nations and the larger globe. 
The colloquium will provide a forum to establish the foundation for the next decade of ocean-climate collaborations. As part of the event, NOAA Ship Ronald H Brown will dock at Mormugao port. NOAA’s largest research vessel is conducting a round the world science mission to improve ocean and atmospheric observations used for United States and global weather and climate prediction.
Indian scientists will join US scientists on board the NOAA ship to launch new high-tech observation buoys in the Arabian Sea. These observation buoys will strengthen the Research Moored Array for African-Asian-Australian Monson Analysis or RAMA, the world’s key tool for predicting monsoons, which drive rainfall affecting agriculture and the economies of a third of the world’s population.
The colloquium will be an opportunity for two nations to share information and science results and help shape the future of ocean and earth sciences for the Indian Ocean Region and those affected by this region’s ocean, fisheries, weather and climate, including the United States and North America.
