PANJIM: Nearly 1,500 recruitments in various government departments will be put on hold following Election Commission of India (ECI) with the model code of conduct for the ensuing Lok Sabha elections coming into force from March 10.
While in some departments the process to accept the applications had ended, in case of a few, the final date was to be this month-end. Around one lakh candidates, who had applied for these posts, will have to wait till May 23- the counting day- for the code to be lifted and the recruitment process to resume.
After facing initial backlash for not filling pending vacancies spanning over two and half years, the BJP-led coalition government had advertised for nearly 1,500 posts since January, this year, in what apparently seems to be a poll gimmick.
The application process of the departments like Town and Country Planning (TCP), Directorate of Health Services, Directorate of Panchayat, Goa Public Service Commission, Imagine Panaji Smart City Pvt Ltd, Goa Medical College and hospital, etc was still in the process with the last date varying between March 15 to March 28.
The departments that completed the application process were Directorate of Higher Education, Department of Women and Child Development, North and South Collectorate, North Goa Planning and Development Authority, Kala Academy, Civil Supplies, Department of Law and Judiciary, Tribal Welfare, Social Welfare, Labour and Employment, Directorate of Prosecution, etc.
The job description varies from Lower Division Clerk, Upper Division Clerk, talathi, stenographer, multi-tasking staff, nurses, sweeper, field surveyors, caretakers, councilors, amongst others.
Speaking to Herald, Chief Electoral officer (CEO) IAS Kunal said that with model code of conduct coming into force from today (Sunday), the recruitment process automatically comes to halt as per the Election Commission of India’s guidelines. “As far as application process is concerned, we will have to verify it on case to case basis,” he stated.
