PONDA: The Congress, at a party workers meet in Shiroda on Sunday, criticised the BJP for its U-turns on several issues, including the Regional Plan, casinos, mining and the medium of instruction.
At the meet, Congress leader Subhash Shirodkar stated that his party was searching for candidates for the 2017 Assembly elections as the NCP is “not with us” and eight Congress candidates of the 2012 election are not willing to re-contest. He added that 25 new faces would be fielded.
Expressing confidence that his party will win, Shirodkar stated that the people had voted for the BJP in 2012, but they only received bad experiences and disappointment thereafter. He also claimed that BJP is creating an atmosphere across India and that Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi were being dragged into cases by the BJP Central government.
Appealing to party workers to actively work for the upcoming election, Shirodkar said that no major development works had been undertaken in Shiroda constituency in the last four years. He added that education is the only medium of development and assured to start two IT projects in Shiroda.
Congress member Girish Chodankar said that the BJP, in 2012, made several promises. He continued, “The promise of zero tolerance failed, RTI and Lokpal is not functioning, and corruption has increased. This government is promoting illegal casinos and cheated on the MoI issue. Inflation has not been controlled, RTO fees have been hiked, water and electricity bills have doubled, resident, people have to spend around Rs 100 on income certificates, and the black money promise was also not fulfilled.”
He added, “People are hoping for earlier days. We will release a book on the U-turns of the government.”
