Host Ponda Footballers defeated Rebello Pandal, Curtorim 5-4 via tie-breaker to confirm their place in the first semis of the 21st all-Goa St Anne’s soccer festival organised by Ponda Footballers at Curti ground, Ponda.
Ponda Footballers took the lead in the 7th minute through a beautiful header by Siddi off a corner kick taken by Johnny Clemente. Curtorim’s efforts paid off when Roland’s header found the net in the dying minutes of the first half to equalise the score 1-1.
With the teams locked in a goalless draw at full time, the tie-breaker system had to be adopted where Alex, Johny, Siddi, Thapa and John shot on target for Ponda Footballers. Vincent, Vitorino, Bruno and Piedade scored for Rebello Pandal while Nelson’s shot was collected by Siddi, who was later declared man-of-the-match.
In the second semis, Cazy Friends, Nuvem got the better of Cortalim Brothers 3-1. Soccoro (2) and Benjo scored for Cazy Friends while Celio scored for Cortalim. Cazy Friends will now meet hosts Ponda Footballers in the finals on August 1.
