MARGAO: A Margao police team arrested four youth from Meerut-Uttar Pradesh, Mohammad Nadeem, Mohammad Wasim Malik, Mohammad Irshad and Sajid Malik, who were allegedly involved in cheating members of the public to solve their problems via black magic.
The police have registered offence under 420 of IPC against the four who have been remanded to four days police custody by JMFC Margao.
Margao PI Sudesh Naik informed that the youth who were staying at Dambel building, near Costa factory, Aquem, Margao, had published advertisements in local dailies promising solution to personal problems.
The modus operandi was that after a person approached them the accused would take the person’s details such as name, address, mobile number along with details of problem faced and request him/her to pay a registration fee after which they would perform black magic and demand further cash.
An unemployed female from Fatorda, Margao, who complained to the police, stated that she had approached the foursome with her problem. She said the four asked her to pay an amount of Rs 8,300, promising to provide her a job. The police said the accused again demanded an amount of Rs 36,000 be paid to them if she wanted her wish to be granted.
The police have seized from the accused a register and other articles including a pot made of clay.
