MARGAO: Four occupants including three women and a driver had a narrow escape when the Indica car in which they were travelling caught fire near Colva circle, on Monday evening.

Fatorda Police informed Herald that the car caught fire while it was in motion. However, no one was injured.
Fatorda Police Station Head Constable Philip Xavier, who is investigating the case said that the four including driver had come to Margao in the car. While proceeding from the town towards the KTC side and when reaching near Colva circle all of a sudden smoke started emitting out from the bonnet. Taking note of this, the driver immediately took the car by the side of the road and before the fire could spread all four immediately got down and ran for safety.
Later, the Margao Fire Station was informed and the fire personnel brought the fire under control.
When contacted Fire Officer Gill D’Souza said that at around 7.12 pm the station received information about the car fire incident. Immediately, a fire tender headed by A K Velip rushed to the site and brought the fire under control.
Police said that the car was totally damaged and cause of fire is not known yet.
“We have conducted the panchanama and fire accident case has been registered. Further investigation is in progress. The statement of the car driver will be taken. We have shifted the damaged car from the road to avoid traffic congestion,” the police said.
