BELGAUM: In a major drug haul, authorities in Belgaum have seized drugs worth Rs 60 lakh and have arrested five drug pedlars with suspected links to Goa.
Apart from local supply to students, police suspect that the peddlers had intended to supply a part of the 650 gms brown sugar to Goa. Police strongly suspects that the accused are the part of an interstate drug nexus and are investigating the case in that direction.
According to police, acting on a tip-off, police nabbed a group of peddlers who were carrying brown sugar on two motorcycles in the Kittur police station limits along the national highway Pune-Bangalore.
CPI Sangangouda of Kittur police station informed that four persons were nabbed, while two managed to escape. The accused have been identified as Santosh Pattar (26) of Dharwad, Manjunath Anaskar (26) of Yellapur, Lokesh Malappa (28) of Ron and Vijay Bagewadi (25) of Bailhongal. A case is registered at Kittur police station.
“We have formed two police teams, which will be heading to Goa and Maharashtra separately. We are pursuing the case on top priority and may also take assistance from Goa police, if required,” Belgaum SP Ravikante Gouda, who recently assumed charge of Belgaum district, told Herald when asked about leads in this case. He has also rewarded the police team that was involved in nabbing the accused.
